Aesthete: A person who has a heightened appreciation for all forms of art. Their admiration of art is so strong that other matters seem less significant.

Apropos: referring to another idea or thought.

Avant-garde: ideas which are outside of the norm; not typically considered or talked about.

AZT: Zidovudine is a drug used to treat HIV/AIDS.

Bazaar: is a market where goods are bought and sold.

Boho: is short for Bohemian.

Carcinogens: are substances which are linked to causing cancer directly.

C’est la vie: French for “That’s life.” Typically used when commenting on the unforgiving nature of life.

Comp: to receive something free of charge.

Credo: a written statement of belief, typically religious in nature.

Cur: a derogatory term used to insult others. It literally is a unmanageable or fierce dog.

Droll: a type of curiosity which usually precedes humor or amusement.

Dyke: lesbian.

Evocative: awakening powerful memories or experiences to one’s mind.

Flue: a type of duct where gases caused by fire escape.

Hearth: a type of fireplace which is used to heat the home and cook meals.

Illin’: slang for something which is incredible or noteworthy.

Injunction: a type of order with authoritative weight behind it.

Itinerary: a document which lays out organized information regarding a person’s schedule.

Masochism: the enjoyment of pain or mutilation, sometimes leading to sexual pleasure.

Mercurochrome: Merbromin is a type of topical antiseptic which is applied on minor wounds or cuts. It contains mercury, so it is banned in many major countries, such as the US.

Metaphysic: a branch of philosophy where the nature of existence is questioned. There are two main questions which are associated with metaphysics. 1. What is ultimately there? 2. What is it like?

Prozac: Fluoxetine is antidepressant medication.

Stoli: a type of Vodka made from rye grain and wheat.

Steuben Glass: an American art glass manufacture.

T-cell: a type of white blood cell.

Tuckahoe: types of edible plants, including: Green arrow arum and Golden-club.

Turpentine: resin obtained from pine trees.

Vindaloo: an Indian curry dish.

Yule Log: also known as the Christmas Block, the Yule Log is burnt in a hearth typically in December.
