The Onstage Playhouse has been located in Downtown Chula Vista since 1999, and has the intimate seating capacity of 60 playgoers. Before this location Onstage Playhouse was located a block away where it was active for 13 years. The theatre offers tickets at an affordable rate, and have a promotion the first Thursday of every production in which the audience can pay what they want to watch the performance that night. Onstage Playhouse is a nonprofit corporation that is, according to their website, “Organized to educate the general public in theater and other forms of art.” The theatre’s actors and crew are all volunteers, with the exception of some musicians or photographers when needed. Onstage Playhouse incorporates the Charles Nichols student intern program, in which South Bay students from junior to senior year immerse in theatre (write, produce, and direct their own two day show). The theatre’s current education outreach program is directed by their student intern director Kim Pappas, and the theater’s artistic director Teri Brown.

*Working in groups of 3-4 simulate you are part of the Charles Nichols student intern program, and pick a scene of the play RENT which you will perform in class and will provide a short summary on apparent themes.
