Carouse – Drink plentiful amounts of alcohol and enjoy oneself with others in a noisy, lively way.

Maxim – A short, pithy statement expressing a general truth or rule of conduct.

Sciatica – Pain affecting the back, hip, and outer side of the leg, caused by compression of a spinal nerve root in the lower back, often owing to degeneration of an intervertebral disk.

Purview – The scope of the influence or concerns of something.

Potency – Power or influence

Blasphemous – Sacrilegious against God or sacred things; profane.

Pernicious – Having a harmful effect, especially in a gradual or subtle way.

Squaw – An offensive word for an American Indian woman or wife.

Strumpet – A female prostitute or a promiscuous woman.

Comportment – Behaviour, bearing

Clemency – Mercy, lenience

Huckleberry – A small, round, edible blue-black berry related to the blueberry.

Perdition – A state of eternal punishment and damnation into which a sinful and unpenitent person passes after death.

Sanction – A threatened penalty for disobeying a law or rule.

Writ – A form of written command in the name of a court or other legal authority to act, or abstain from acting, in some way.

Ati<a: Pawnee word for “mother.”

ta ta Jiks sta: Pawnee for “I love you.”

Tatanka: Lakota word for “buffalo.”

Pakwachinenothwa: Sac n Fox word for “buffalo.”

Kit Tuk Creek: Original name for Genoa in Pawnee. Means “beaver.”

Dat do ta dee: Pawnee for “I am waiting on you.”

Eh dus ca: Pawnee for “warrior society.”
